Goose Island News: California Bound

For much of July, our Goose family has been taking wing and flying off to other parts of Loudoun County, Virginia for days at a time. Until early August they’d been gone for a week. Now they are back for a while.

These photos were taken mostly in May. Now in June, the six surviving “babies” are “teenagers.” They have all their feathers and markings and are beginning to flex their flight muscles during land and water calisthenics.

Kathy had a milestone birthday on 25 May, but we managed to have a few mostly quiet, but one uproariously loud, celebrations over the looonnnng Memorial Day weekend.

This morning, as I stepped out on our porch facing the pond, I casually observed the usual cluster of 5 pairs of Canada Geese lounging around the edge of the water. I was about to head up to the road to fetch the morning paper, when something totally unexpected caught my eye.
